The death of world-famous Chef Loiseau in 2003 hit the food world hard. I remember working in a restaurant in Atlanta when I heard the news. For those who don't know the name, he was the celebrity chef that had more fame than any of the Chefs on Food Network. He had cookbooks, T.V. shows, and his Restaurant / Hotel in Burgundy, Le Relais Bernard Loiseau would have patrons ranging from the average Joe to Robert de Niro, and Heads of state such as the French President and others from around the world. Also for those who saw the Disney Pixar movie Ratatouille, the character of Auguste Gusteau is based on the life of Chef Loiseau.

Now, the U.K. Newspaper The Telegraph has published an article on how the Michelin guide may have covered up information that may have led to the chef killing himself. Apparently, they were going to take away one of his stars, which would have cost him a large amount of business clientele. It is an unfortunate fact of life for people in the Restaurant industry, those critics and bloggers such as me have the power to destroy the reputation and livelihood of a Chef and his restaurant just by posting a few negative words. It doesn't matter if it is the best food you have ever had, a critic will kill you. If this story is true, then shame on Michelin for ending the life of a great creator of food.

May he rest in piece
