Breakfast and Mini Golf
Madeira Beach, Florida, USA
Dined in January 2016
By Sean Overpeck (CFE)
It was a perfect winter day in St. Pete Beach, Florida, around 70°f, clear skies, and no rain. What more could you ask for for a day of walking on the beach and playing some mini golf with family that was visiting from out of town. But before the golf, we were hungry, and needed some good breakfast. So we asked around not wanting a typical chain restaurant, but something local, with a friendly atmosphere and decent menu. The locals all agreed on the same location, a little place near Madeira Beach called the South Beach Bar and Grill, and though a little run down, the service was good, and the food was wonderful.

Main review:
South Beach Bar and Grill is a local restaurant on Madeira Beach, that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with an all day long happy hour from 8 am till 7 pm. Breakfast is served till noon, and the lunch and dinner menu both start at noon with daily specials. They are also pet friendly, so bring your mutt.
My daughter enjoyed the shrimp omelet with accompaniments while my fiancé had a sausage and vegetable omelet. I had a chance to try a tasting of both plates, and my daughters was outstanding.
I decided to go in a different direction then an omelet and have the traditional Eggs Benedict. I am a big fan and can never pass it up when I see it on a menu. The hollandaise was okay, not my favorite but overall the dish was very good.
I would return here again to try their lunch or dinner menu, it was a good atmosphere and down to home feeling. Displayed on the wall showing their patriotism were several flags for the services, veterans, and a September 11th American flag that had the names embroidered into it of all the victims of that day. I’m glad to see that some business out there still remember and care.

About Sean:
I am based out of St. Petersburg, Florida working in the food service industry for the past twenty years, and am currently with the American Embassy as the Executive Chef in Basra, Iraq. Formally I have worked with groups contracting in Afghanistan, Dubai, and Antarctica, also working in restaurants in and around Atlanta prior to the wars. I have also owned a catering company and served proudly in the United States Army food service program. The idea for the Wine, Dine, and Play Blog started in late 2012 after a trip to Jordan, when I was asked by others to write down the experiences from a few Jordanian restaurants, plus the wine from the region that I tasted, and locations of interest such as Petra, and the culture. Since that time, nearly 200 articles have been written on restaurants, including fifteen from the worlds top 100 lists of San Pellegrino and the Elite Travelers Guide; exotic world locations such as Dubai, Petra, and African Safari’s; food recipes & Grand Food Dictionaries; country cuisines such as Afghan and Peruvian; and of course wine from vineyards in California, Oregon, the Carolina’s, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia
