The Sandbar Restaurant, located on the North end of Anna Maria Island, is a good place to enjoy fresh market seafood, tropical cocktails and sunsets from the recently renovated dining room and bar. The Sandbar was chosen by brides for the Hall of Fame as well as the Best of the Best for Ceremony and Reception Site on the West Coast of Florida by the knot "Best of Weddings" issue for 2008 through 2013 and Best Reception Site on the West Coast of Florida for 2007. They focus on purchasing many products from sustainable and organic growers such as Gamble Creek Farm as well as offering several options for vegans and vegetarians as well as a full gluten-free lunch and dinner menu. The staff is also trained in identifying allergy’s and when in doubt have a good network to pass on reliable information to the client.

My wife and I stopped in for a quick bite while touring the island. My wife had a Hendricks gin martini while I had a beer from J Dubb’s Brewery called the Passion, a wheat beer with 4.2% ABV passion fruit and mango wheat ale. They are based out of Sarasota, Florida with other interesting beer names such as poolside, bell cow, and up top. This brewery is one of many local Florida breweries offered on the menu as well as national and international selections.

We started with a smoked chicken and bean dip with a blend of beans, corn, oven roasted tomatoes, sour cream, and cheddar cheese, tossed with a Lake Meadows Natural in-house smoked chicken from Ocoee, Florida. Other starters include shrimp and grits, coconut shrimp, fish dip, crab and caviar, wagyu sliders, and stone crabs when in the season to name a few.

For entrees at dinner some selections include a 24 hour sous vide beef short rib, served with pickled seasonal fruit, cheese grits and basil, a local clam dish, tossed with Spanish chorizo, tomatoes, spinach, and fresh pasta (pictured below), and a succulent scallops dish, seared, then served atop a bed of farm greens and white rice braised in coconut milk with candied orange, piquillo pepper, basil, and lime.
