Poppo’s Taqueria has four locations in and around the Bradenton area; family owned and operated Mexican inspired, but a fully organic restaurant. Fresh ingredients, passion, and a no-compromise approach mission statement that redefine a casual ‘street food’ style dining experience makes Poppo’s unique. My wife and I stopped at the Anna Maria Island store for some refreshments and nibbles to get out of the heat and discovered a treasure, a hidden Taqueria unlike any other I have been to.

Virgil’s Root Beer is purified carbonated water, unbleached cane sugar, caramelized unrefined cane sugar, citric acid, herbs, and spices. It is Gluten Free, has no Preservatives, no Caffeine, no GMO’s, and no artificial anything!

Jarritos sodas, sold in 80% of all Mexican States, is free of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). They started with coffee, then evolved to mandarin, tamarind, lime, and fruit punch.
Brewed in Sarasota, eight flavors perfect for those of you who like a probiotic boost to go with their meal. Vegan certified, gluten and GMO, and dairy free, and certified organic. The process begins with a SCOBY (Symbiotic Colony Of Bacteria and Yeast) and lets the process of fermentation take place. Then they blend in cinnamon, cayenne, raspberry leaf, turmeric, and more to create a sparkling and effervescent tea.
This is their line of fountain beverages that has its origins based on the Objectivism of Ayn Rand’s novel and the independent thinking of the Atlas Society. It took us a minute to dig up this little gem, but we’re glad we did! This unique line of sodas is made with real sugar and no high fructose corn syrup. It is a wonderful alternative to the standard giants.
From burritos to quesadillas, bowls, and tacos Poppo’s has you covered. Hot fillings for their custom tacos include natural spiced beef shoulder, organic black beans, natural chicken thighs with ancho spice, grass-fed pork carnitas, wild Florida boar chorizo, and Tempeh from Rhapsody Natural Foods in Cabot, Vermont. Tempeh is a fermented soy protein that is well loved by vegetarians and vegans for its health benefits and hearty flavor.

When sourcing their produces, they make sure that as much of it as possible is organically grown, to include ‘whole’ fresh produce, and most importantly, no processed items of any kind. My wife and I enjoyed some drinks from the bar where they source local and craft beers, followed by some natural organic tortilla chips made fresh daily and served with cold dipping sauces that were perfect on this very warm day.

Dessert:
We did not have dessert on this trip, though the Pop Craft company based out of Sarasota provides the desserts with select flavors. Pop Craft uses locally sourced, seasonal whole food to create the frozen confections and they choose only the very best and sustainable ingredients.
