The idea of the American diner took off between the 1920’s and 1940’s serving hamburgers, club sandwiches, coffee, and milkshakes. Over time diners expanded to menus with a wide variety of other American and European foods, plus breakfast. This is where Metro Diner comes into play with the original opening in 1938 outside of Jacksonville, Florida. Today (2017) there are fourteen locations around Florida and thirteen more outside the state in Alabama, Delaware, Georgia, Indiana, Nevada, North Carolina, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. This review is based on the Saint Petersburg location.

On the two previous visits, my wife and I enjoyed the chicken pot pie, the bold city burger, the Monte Cristo sandwich, and the Big Bern's fried pork tenderloin sandwich. On this visit, my wife had their Philly cheese steak sandwich made with ribeye and melted provolone with a side of their macaroni and cheese. The steak was wonderful in flavor, but the macaroni and cheese were not as good as others I’ve had dining around town.

I had the two egg breakfast with a side of hash browns and a wonderful biscuit with sausage gravy on the side that was to die for.Yet again Metro Diner scores a home run on good comfort diner foods.

Final notes, review basics, observations and more pictures:

Most reviews are subjective, depending on the writer; but they should also be responsible, and respectfully written, upholding the truth, and accurately conveying the experience to the best of the writer's knowledge, even if it includes metaphors the restaurant may not like to read about. My ratings are by the stars I award (from 0 to 5). The rating is calculated on a point accumulation of six separate factors based on individual experience. They include wine and other beverage selections, plate presentation, customer service, restaurant or café ambiance, food quality, and wow factor. To see more details of this rating list, read this article:

Overall from this experience, and the score factors outlined in the ‘about page’ section, based on my individual experience and rating, I give Metro Diner a 2 out of 5 stars, meaning that they were far above the average dining experience of most restaurants, The first review score was 3 of 5 stars,  and the second visit was 2 of 5, so they have maintained there rating from my last visit, but not yet bumped up to the experience from out first.
