My flight landed for a layover at Boston Logan Airport on Saint Patrick’s Day and I thought how perfect to be in the US City with tons of Irish heritage on this Irish day. The day before arriving I had published a recipe on a vegetable blend titled The Irish Flag Vegetable Medley to celebrate patriotism and history of Ireland. My wife recommended I find a bar and drink a green beer to celebrate. I searched and searched, but surprisingly there were few bars at the terminal, and none had the green beer special. I decided to enjoy a St. Patrick’s Day lunch at Lucky’s Lounge, part of the Lyon’s Group which owns 19+ Restaurants to include the two Lucky’s locations, the first being downtown, and the second here at the airport.
A local downtown Boston favorite, where maybe like the ‘other place’ “they may know your name,” this slick lounge with a cool retro vibe offers comfort food like burgers, salads, and satisfying sandwiches in a sleek, open-air environment. The airport location is drawn down greatly but offers roughly the same menu. The restaurant had a long bar, a few tables, and like most airport restaurants overloaded with people. It took some time, but I was able to find a spot, bypassed the regular menu and went with the weekend St. Patrick’s Day special.

It was called the drinking buddy special consisting of an Irish Reuben sandwich with the grey corned beef made New England Style which means it prepared with fewer nitrates versus the more common pink colored traditional style. The taste to me was similar to regular corned beef, however a recipe I made one time from Michael Ruhlman was the best I have ever had, and most places I eat corned beef or Ruebens at, I compare to that recipe flavor. The Lucky’s Lounge Reuben was topped with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and thousand island dressing with toasted rye bread. With the sandwich, I also ordered the drinking buddies which came with a pint of Guinness and a shot of American Tincup whiskey. This whiskey is made like a classic bourbon style with a bold and spicy finish.

Final notes, review basics, observations and more pictures:
Most reviews are subjective, depending on the writer; but they should also be responsible, and respectfully written, upholding the truth, and accurately conveying the experience to the best of the writer's knowledge, even if it includes metaphors the restaurant may not like to read about. My ratings are by the stars I award (from 0 to 5). The rating is calculated on a point accumulation of six separate factors based on individual experience. They include wine and other beverage selections, plate presentation, customer service, restaurant or café ambiance, food quality, and wow factor. To see more details of this rating list, read this article:
Overall from this experience, and the score factors outlined in the ‘about page’ section, based on my individual experience and rating, I give Lucky’s a 3 out of 5 stars, meaning that they exceeded my expectations and were far above the average dining experience of most restaurants.
