“Tropical 'Key West' old Florida waterfront dining without the drive,” is how Captain Jack’s Waterfront Bar and Grille is advertised. A place where you can enjoy one of the largest tiki style bars I have ever seen and the biggest in Tarpon Springs. You can dock your boat or drive. When parking your car you will see a tourism mecca with a double-decker bus parked off the road, a few old boats next to the restaurant, guard tower, and a large shark displayed coming out of the water like jaws with the Tiki Bar sign entrance. My wife had been to Tarpon Springs many years before and had remembered this bar and grille, so we stopped in for a quick bite and drink before going to the famous Sponge Docks across the river.

We drank some beer and tequila then shared two items from their appetizers menu, considering they had over 25 selections to choose from ranging with shrimp assortments, calamari, quesadillas, stone crab claws, steak bites, conch fritters, and smoked fish spread. The first item we shared was the grouper sliders. Three to the order on pan de mie bread, tomato, and remoulade aioli. The fish tasted a little bit old, far from fresh considering how close we were to the Gulf where Florida’s main fish is the grouper.
Grouper sliders |
While we ate the semi-bad tasting grouper sliders that were masked by the remoulade, otherwise may have been a lot worse was the ahi tuna nachos made with fresh flour tortillas lightly fried served with a side of wasabi-sour sauce for dipping, and had a good flavor, making up for the sliders. This was defiantly a place for tourists or for locals and visitors that really wanted to just lay back, enjoy the breezes, and not worry about good service, food quality, and avoiding smoking on the outside tiki patio. If you want something more refined then this is a place to avoid, as it is on the laid back side.

Dessert:
We did not eat dessert, but some of their selections included deep-fried Key lime pie and cheesecake, peanut butter pie and more.

Final notes, review basics, observations and more pictures:
Most reviews are subjective, depending on the writer; but they should also be responsible, and respectfully written, upholding the truth, and accurately conveying the experience to the best of the writer's knowledge, even if it includes metaphors the restaurant may not like to read about. My ratings are by the stars I award (from 0 to 5). The rating is calculated on a point accumulation of six separate factors based on individual experience. They include wine and other beverage selections, plate presentation, customer service, restaurant or café ambiance, food quality, and wow factor. To see more details of this rating list, read this article:
