Bonefish Grill was founded in St Petersburg, Florida in 2000 by Tim Curci and Chris Parker. In October of 2001 Bloomin' Brands, headquartered in Tampa, Florida acquired the restaurant which at the time, had three locations. Today they have seven franchised restaurants and 151 corporate-owned and operated Grills across 28 states.
This is my wife and I’s third visit and review on Wine Dine and Play to our two Bonefish St. Petersburg locations, the first here at the Tyrone Boulevard store, while the previous two were at the 4th Street North Location. On previous visits, we had the bone-in ribeye with truffle macaroni and cheese, bang-bang shrimp, stone crab claws, pompano, ribeye steak, and the stone crab claws to name a few.

We started with the saucy shrimp appetizer which is a sautéed shrimp dish, with lime tomato garlic sauce, Kalamata olives, and topped with feta cheese. It was not as good as the bang bang shrimp from one of our previous visits, but it was still very tasty, especially with the hints of garlic.

Before the entrees we ordered arrived, my wife switched to a glass of wine from Acrobat Winery for her meal. This Oregon based winery produced Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and the King of Oregon, Pinot Noir which my wife had. Given 90 points by Wine Enthusiast the winemaker tasting notes show that on the nose it has rich, fruit-forward aromas like ripe cherries and strawberry pie, with hints of cinnamon, vanilla, and mocha. The palate echoes with ripe strawberries and dark chocolate upfront, followed by earthy and spicy notes of forest floor and clove. With this wine, my wife enjoyed a special of swordfish with a pumpkin ravioli and green beans. The swordfish was what I consider a medium-bodied flavored fish, versus a flaky mild fish which is more common seller fish. The fish and ravioli were an excellent dish, and hopefully next October, it will return to the menu.

My go-to wine when I dine at Bonefish is the Federalist Zinfandel from the Lodi region of California. Here is a great story on the history of the Lodi AVA. The Federalist wine was named after the old American Federalist movement, today called the Libertarians. When going to their winery web page, they were advertised as the revolutionaries wine and had George Washington and other Founding Fathers pictures on their labels. I enjoyed this wine with a six-ounce filet and a surf upgrade with the turf of Maryland crab cakes filled with jumbo lump crab meat and topped with red remoulade sauce. The filet was wood-grilled and served with truffle mac and cheese and mash potato sides.

Dessert:
For dessert, I had some coffee, and my wife and I shared autumn special on the menu for a limited time of a pumpkin creme brûlée. Honestly, it was not our favorite, and not sure if they used a pumpkin puree from a can or fresh pumpkin, but it did lack flavor and taste.

Final notes, review basics, observations, and more pictures:
Most reviews are subjective, depending on the writer; but they should also be responsible, and respectfully written, upholding the truth, and accurately conveying the experience to the best of the writer's knowledge, even if it includes metaphors the restaurant may not like to read about. My ratings are by the stars I award (from 0 to 5). The rating is calculated on a point accumulation of six separate factors based on individual experience. They include wine and other beverage selections, plate presentation, customer service, restaurant or café ambience, food quality, and wow factor.
To see more details of this rating list, read this article:
Overall from this experience, and the score factors outlined in the ‘about page’ section, based on my individual experience and rating, I give Bonefish a 3 out of 5 stars, meaning that they not only exceeded my expectations and were far above the average dining experience of most restaurants. The other four visits review scores were also 3 of 5 stars, so they have remained at the same excellence as my previous visits.
Scores are detailed in the factor chart below:
