Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Founder:
Jim Mellody
Beef ‘O’ Brady’s® is an American style eatery where the name can be confused for a place serving Irish fair, but as I looked over the menu, nothing really came close. What I did see was American comfort foods, sports pub grub, and family-style classics. From burgers and sandwiches to lighter dishes, tacos, and entrees. Beef 'O' Brady’s is a chain restaurant founded in 1985 with the first sports bar and grill opening in Brandon, Florida, and today with over twenty-five locations in the Tampa Bay area alone, and another 215+ locations and franchises in seven states. The founder Jim Mellody died in 2002 but had sold the brand to Family Sports Concepts Inc., and the current CEO is Chris Elliott, ho was the former executive of Cinnabon and Church's Chicken. It received the “family-friendly” logo for not serving any hard liquor while still catering to a sports crowd.
Before passing, Jim Mellody was inspired by a love of sports and filled the restaurants with TVs and satellite dishes so patrons could enjoy watching a vast array of sporting events. He also covered the walls with authentic sports memorabilia he had collected through the years. The regulars quickly nicknamed the restaurant “Beef's®." I first tried them with some friends when we were at our local wine shop Tosti's Spirits and Fine Wine, which has a tasting room towards the back. One of the group was hungry and ordered some food from the local Beef 'O' Brady’s right down the street, and we all shared the mixture of items that were ordered. A few weeks later while my wife and I were out running some errands on a rainy spring day, we stopped in for a lunch.

Overall it was a basic dining experience. The service was good and friendly, plus the food was okay, yet not much different from any number of chain restaurant bar and grills across the state of Florida and the United States for that matter. My wife had the lettuce wraps from the lighter side portion of the menu, one of four items which had romaine lettuce, wonton strips, and cabbage slaw, plus served with your choice of broccoli or quinoa. You can also add your choice of either poblano chicken or grilled sweet jalapeño aioli shrimp. Fajitas, chicken breast, and grilled shrimp round up the lighter side menu items.
There are seven premium blends Angus burgers on the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s menu from a five-cheese, an OMG, BBQ bacon, cheeseburger wrap and my selection of the Amarillo firecracker burger with smoked bacon, fried jalapeños, pepper jack cheese, and topped with sweet jalapeño mayo. The burger had some spice to it, and the meat had a good char flavor, but nothing really exciting overall. I have definitely had better burgers from other places, but for a big and basic sports bar chain like this, it wasn’t bad. You can round up your visit by ordering steak, chicken, or shrimp tacos or burritos, baby back ribs, sirloin and ribeyes, gumbo, fish and chip and more. Jim Mellody would be proud of the restaurants' growth since his passing.

Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Dessert:
We did not eat dessert on this visit but the two highlights include a molten chocolate cake served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and Funnel fries served with chocolate and caramel dipping sauces.

Final notes, review basics, observations, and more pictures:
Most reviews are subjective, depending on the writer; but they should also be responsible, and respectfully written, upholding the truth, and accurately conveying the experience to the best of the writer's knowledge, even if it includes metaphors the restaurant may not like to read about. My ratings are by the stars I award (from 0 to 5). The rating is calculated on a point accumulation of six separate factors based on individual experience. They include wine and other beverage selections, plate presentation, customer service, restaurant or café ambiance, food quality, and wow factor.
