Snappers Sea Grill Zomato rating:
Snappers Sea Grill Owner:
Dan Casey
Snappers Sea Grill was rated as one of the top 50 Best of the Bay restaurants in 2016, and TripAdvisor still lists Snappers as a Top 1% Restaurant in the entire St. Petersburg area. They advertise as a place “Where Casual Elegance Meets Exceptional Seafood.” Snappers offer a variety of seafood dishes, in-house aged steaks, and desserts. They are regarded as the “Gem of St. Pete Beach Restaurants,” focusing on fresh-caught seafood straight from the Gulf, known as Gulf To Table, and they never take reservations, with their first come first serve policy. Snappers is a bistro on the beach, as my wife and I arrived at dusk the dining room was nearly full, with a few tables open the patio, where we sat for dinner.

My wife had a glass of the Matua Sauvignon Blanc while I had the Revivalist blended with 75% Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon at 15%, Malbec 5%, and Petit Syrah 5% from Tortoise Creek Wines based out of Lodi, California, and farmed from vineyards in the Delta AVA. According to the winemakers' notes, it is full of fresh, bright aromas and flavors of blackberries, cherries, and herbs. It is round, rich and ripe with soft tannins. An ideal pairing with grilled or smoked meats, burgers, and pasta. Tortoise Creek is part of The Lodi Rules for Sustainable Winegrowing California’s first 3rd party-certified sustainable winegrowing program.
Our entree came with a starter house salad of mixed green with tri-colored corn tortillas. My wife had the stuffed mahimahi baked with a coco-cashew crust, over a mango chutney, and served with grilled banana and a potato puff pastry. The presentation lacked slightly with color variations, though the rule of odds was observed which trends with modern plating techniques. The dish had a slightly sweet flavor from the toasted coconut, with the same great medium flavors of the fish itself. The spice profile took on that of a sweet tropical mixed flavor when you added in the grilled banana, more than a savory take on a mahimahi dish. The textures blended nicely with this sweeter profile and extremely tender falling apart with the touch of the fork. Other seafood dishes on the menu include crab cakes, gulf grouper, tuna, Fishermans platter, and salmon.
The in-house cut ribeye steak is one of two cuts of meat on the Snapper’s menu with the other being a filet of beef tenderloin. The ribeye is a Black Angus cut, heavily marbled and cooked on an open fire grill, served with seasonal sautéed vegetables and a potato puff pastry. Wonderful textures of mouthwatering beef that melt in your mouth. The color spectrum of this dish was much more fluent than that of the mahimahi while also following the three ruled odd presentation and paired with the wine nicely. With the dish, I ordered a Neptune skewer of blackened jumbo shrimp for us to share.
Overall we had a wonderful experience at Snapper’s and look forward to returning once again, and trying the other items on Chef Casey’s menu, and from our dinner and the many reviews from the Tampa Bay Area on Wine Dine and Play, I can see why they are rated as high as they are.

Final notes, review basics, observations, and more pictures:
Most reviews are subjective, depending on the writer; but they should also be responsible, and respectfully written, upholding the truth, and accurately conveying the experience to the best of the writer's knowledge, even if it includes metaphors the restaurant may not like to read about. My ratings are by the stars I award (from 0 to 5). The rating is calculated on a point accumulation of six separate factors based on individual experience. They include wine and other beverage selections, plate presentation, customer service, restaurant or café ambiance, food quality, and wow factor.
