An interesting wine, with an even more interesting web page, nicely designed to reflect the character of the wines you are drinking, which just about says it all for Johndrow Vineyards, especially for one of my personal favorite cabernets of theirs, the JV.

David Johndrow is the founder and ‘self-proclaimed’ wine fanatic, is leading one of the hottest new boutique wineries in Napa. His wine has developed a cult-like following among the Hollywood elite and has been served at Sundance Film Festival, ESPY’s and Academy Awards parties. Specializing in Cabernet Sauvignon and a Sauvignon Blanc blend, Johndrow Vineyards wines represent a reasonably priced, spirited and on a mission to help wine lovers everywhere “Find Your Happy Place.”

In the webpage intro it mentions that Johndrow has taken on a cult-like following, well when you take on a winemaker like Rob Lawson, then you can expect that to happen. You see Lawson is also the maker of Ghost Block wines which is the cult of cult wines in Napa Valley, so that tells you that the future of Johndrow wines is looking very good indeed. If you want to entice and whet your appetite for a wonderful crisp and full-bodied red wine, then you have to also look to Howell Mountain, and once your there, then Johndrow has his special JV Reserve waiting just for you.

Explosive fruit flavor and a long big balanced finished on the palette, well that screams Napa, and if you want a comparison to Johndrow’s JV, then look no further to the Cask 23 from Stag’s Leap Winery or the  El Desafio from Jonata Vineyards.

Wine and Grape:
Nose (Bouquet):
Palate Experience:
JV Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
Winemaker Notes:
The wines brilliant deep purple-‐reddish hue leads to aromas filled with roses, cherry and blueberry with hints aromas of cinnamon toast and dark chocolate.
Winemaker Notes:
Full entry to the palate with expressive black cherry and cocoa showcases silky, structured tannins supported by a long finish that will  lengthen over time to a big balanced finish with ripe dark berry
overtones.

Final notes, review basics, and observations:

*** NOTE TO THE READER ***

Most reviews are subjective, depending on the writer; but they should also be responsible, and respectfully written, upholding the truth, and accurately conveying the experience to the best of the writer's knowledge, even if it includes metaphors the restaurant may not like to read about.

I refer to myself as an oenophile though, oenophilia is defined as “a disciplined devotion to wine, accompanying strict traditions of consumption and appreciation.” In a general sense, oenophilia also refers to the enjoyment of wine, often by a layman — which I am, and not qualified as a professional. I just enjoy drinking it, so my rating is based on enjoyment and the overall experience, not the science of an expert, and thus subjective, not objective. See the score factors outlined in the ‘about page’ on how I arrived at the rating percentage below:

California cuisine is a style of cuisine marked by an interest in fusion cuisine (integrating disparate cooking styles and ingredients) and in the use of freshly prepared local ingredients. The food is typically prepared with strong attention to presentation. Foods low in saturated fats and high in fresh vegetables and fruits with lean meats and seafood from the California coast often define the style.
